Be sure to attend the meeting this Wednesday, January 19th at noon at Network of Community Ministries located at 1500 International Parkway, Richardson, Tx 75081. We will be hearing from several of our members this week for Classification Talks.
For some of our new Rotarians, what is the purpose of Classification Talks?
When a lawyer named Paul Harris, a coal dealer, a mining engineer, and a merchant tailor first met in l905 in Chicago, they gave birth to Rotary and, by the nature of their diverse occupations, to the association’s most distinctive feature – the classification principle. Today, the classification principle, though modified, remains a cornerstone of Rotary. Upon joining Rotary, you are given a classification by the Board of Directors to reflect your occupation or primary source of income.
By limiting active membership by classifications, each club becomes a cross-section of the business and professional life of the community it serves. Also, the classification principle makes sure that no one profession or business becomes the dominant force within the club. Another benefit of the classification system is that representatives of many fields are brought together, providing the opportunity for Rotarians to broaden their knowledge of the contemporary workplace. This, in turn, enables Rotarians to fulfill one of the basic obligations of vocational service – recognizing the worthiness to society of all useful occupations.
We look forward to hearing from eight RERC members this week about their various occupations! Please remember that we are partnering with Richardson Rotary Club for a service project to help the Treasured Vessels Foundation (TVF), a non-profit devoted to providing a long-term safe place for healing and growth to individuals impacted by trauma from exploitation in sex trafficking. Over the next few Wednesdays, we will be collecting food items for our TVF food drive. Items we are collecting for the food drive include:
canned diced tomatoes, tomato paste, Rotel, Tony's seasoning, pastas, pasta sauce, alfredo sauce, mac n cheese, canned whole black beans, canned whole pinto beans, canned refried beans, sugar, flour, brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder, pan spray, salt, pepper, oatmeal, cream of wheat, canned green beans, canned corn, corn bread, ramen (chicken), ketchup, salsa, Tabasco sauce, Louisiana hot sauce, mayonnaise, mustard, ranch dressing
