Kiran Singh Sirah, a 2011-13 Rotary Peace Fellow at Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, promotes storytelling as a way to build peace as executive director of the International Storytelling Center in Jonesborough, Tennessee, USA. For the International Day of Peace, observed on 21 September, Sirah shares his own story for our blog, Rotary Voices.

Each year, the holiday season brings with it great joy for children hoping for a visit from Santa Claus. Impoverished families must attempt to bring this special happiness to their children with the challenge of food, shelter and clothing. Network helped over 2,000 kids light up on Christmas morning to their delight and the relief of their parents. We want to be there for struggling families, and we need your generous support as we get our Toyland Express ready! Help us provide the toys and gifts that will give little ones an extra delight. Bring toys to Network, host an Angel Tree at your church or business, mail a cash gift, or donate online right now. The holidays are a time of giving, and you can start early.

Dear RERC members. Please note that there is a new "widget" added to the website and bulletin. Currently there are 4 pages added: Community Awards, Small Groups Fall 2014, Scholarships 2015 and RERC Buddy introductions. These pages give us a better possibility of grouping "longer lasting" items together on our website. On the scholarships page we will keep track of our scholarship recipients and have the ability to direct applicants for more information. The buddy pages is a new addition to our web site and I am asking all of you to write a story about your Rotary buddy (by interviewing them), first out is Wendall with his introduction of Faye. In the Small Groups section we will keep the stories from the small groups as well as pictures.
Imagine a community where the residents are all free to plant, grow, harvest, and eat healthy food whenever they want without having to pay for it. That’s exactly what residents of more than 20 cities and towns in France are doing through a project called Potalib, launched by the Rotaract Club of Versailles. It’s just one example of how Rotary’s programs for young people develop leaders.
Such was the case with the club outing at Lake Cypress Springs, hosted by President Kathy Higgins and husband, Randall. They opened their lake house to the club, along with their pontoon boat and two jet skis, all of which were put to good use. We ate barbecue and then "Captain Randall" took two groups on his SS Minnow for "a three-hour tour... a three-hour tour." Randall knows his way around, so we were never in danger of being stranded on Gilligan's Island.
