The World Health Organization (WHO) today announced that it has officially removed Nigeria from the list of countries where polio is endemic. It’s been 14 months since a case of polio caused by the wild virus was reported there. That leaves only two countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan, where transmission of the virus has never been stopped. Read more about the WHO’s announcement.
RERC Board supports helping fund the Gold Star Mother’s (mother’s whose sons have died in service in wars since 9/11. Woody Alexander is in charge of this effort. Foundation Board to approve.
Signature Project Committee will meet Monday, September 14, 2015, at House Cafe to continue discussions of possible Signature Projects for our club.
Edge Awards are awaiting “Official” date, time, and location announcement.
District Roundtable will meet, Saturday, September 12, 2015, at Plano Chamber of Commerce. Attendance is open to any member wishing to attend.
Membership Committee is working on ideas to strengthen the club, improve participation and engagement.
Rotary University is September 19, 2015. New member’s interested need to register ASAP. The club will pay for the first class (Rotary Basics) for new members that have joined in last year (or so).
Annual Fiesta Night Party at the Frazee’s will be October 10, 2015 (No Wed Meeting that week)
Christmas Party will be December 9, 2015, at the Denny’s home.

Theresa Yarborough will be attending an Interact meeting on October 10th, 2015. Efforts are being made by Youth Committee to institute an Interact Club at Berkner High School. Anyone interested in helping with Interact is encouraged to get in touch with Theresa or Amanda O’Neal.

Casino Night is Friday, February 5th, 2016. Monica Scott is making plans. As soon as she is mobile she will be meeting with her committee to get the plans in full swing.

Since graduating from the Rotary Peace Center at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Wendy Coulson Catalán has made her home in San Miguel de Allende, a small community in central Mexico. In honor of the International Day of Peace, which is Monday, 21 September, Catalán is joining local Rotary members in hosting a celebration that includes a rap tournament to reach youths, who are often left out of the city’s many cultural events.
