SIX LOCAL DENTISTS HONORED FOR DEDICATED SERVICE AT THE ROTARY/NETWORK DENTAL CLINIC

Dentists honored for their consistent efforts at Richardson's Rotary/NETWORK Dental clinic: from left, Drs. Terri Train, Vanitha Gowda, Susan Aten, (clinic founders Doug Crosby & Mark Denny in center), Larry Korenman, Candice Hutcheson and Jack Bodie.
The six dentists all practice in Richardson, and according to clinic founders Doug Crosby and Mark Denny, they are always among the first to volunteer for shifts at the clinic. Denny also said that occasionally there are procedures that can't be handled in the clinic, so the doctors take the patients back to their offices for treatment.
Richardson East Rotary recognized the dentists with the Paul Harris Award, one of Rotary International's highest recognitions.
Crosby told the gathering that in its 5.5 year existence, the clinic has had more than 40 dentists do volunteer work. The clinic is housed at the NETWORK of Community Ministries in Richardson and serves students in the Richardson ISD who are uninsured and not eligible for government-sponsored free dental treatment.
A few statistics from the clinic: 573 patients have been treated, 379 teeth pulled, 470 teeth filled, 97 root canals have been performed, 16 orthodontic procedures have been handled and 45 crowns have been placed.

Every gift to The Foundation has an impact

It takes less than $10 to provide bed nets that give people in Uganda a safe, peaceful night’s rest and protect them from malaria. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people — children, families, and entire communities — benefit from projects funded by The Rotary Foundation. Have you made your gift to the Foundation this year?

Richardson East Rotary recognized seven outstanding community volunteers today with the Rotary Paul Harris award. From left, Rachel Savant, Kaitlyn Mullens, Jeremy Hailey, Brenda Duckett, Jeff Hubbard, Don Tarrant, Valerie Tarrant. For more information on the awards and the recipients, click here.

Richardson East Rotary Club improved on 11/19 because we have two new members in our midst. Welcome to Anna Adams and Bill Krueger. Their fresh vision and perspectives will help all of us. Anna is development director at the Network of Community Ministries. Bill is a lawyer with McKamie Krueger LLP

What your gift to The Rotary Foundation supports

A gift of $100 helps provide a sewing machine that can teach entrepreneurs the skills they need to launch a business. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people — children, families, and entire communities — benefit from projects funded by The Rotary Foundation. Have you made your gift to the Foundation this year?

Please join me in congratulating Rotarian Langford Sneed on receiving the Unsung Hero Award at the EDGE Luncheon on Wednesday. Langford joined Richardson East in 1989, and he has maintained perfect attendance since that time. He has served in countless officer positions for the club including Treasurer, Sergeant-at-Arms, Community Service Chair, Vocational Service Chair, and Program Director and International Service on two separate occasions. Over the years, he has owned a Hunter Fan Store, a garage door company, and a gift shop, all while continuing his chosen career as a pharmacist. He takes care of our club members' medical ailments with his back home remedies and can fix a garage door almost immediately. Langford is always there whenever he is needed. To quote another one of our outstanding Rotarians, Wendall Ritz, "Langford is Superman and the Flash all in one - a Marvel Character."

Congratulations, Langford! You are appreciated and respected for your exemplary service above self!

Thanks,

Kathy Higgins

Dear RERC members. Please note that there is a new "widget" added to the website and bulletin. Currently there are 4 pages added: Community Awards, Small Groups Fall 2014, Scholarships 2015 and RERC Buddy introductions. These pages give us a better possibility of grouping "longer lasting" items together on our website. On the scholarships page we will keep track of our scholarship recipients and have the ability to direct applicants for more information. The buddy pages is a new addition to our web site and I am asking all of you to write a story about your Rotary buddy (by interviewing them), first out is Wendall with his introduction of Faye. In the Small Groups section we will keep the stories from the small groups as well as pictures.
