Richardson East Rotary Club’s Hollis Owens was recognized as one of twenty-four nominees for the 14th Annual Richardson Real Heroes Award Thursday evening August 29th. The Annie Award ultimately was presented to Debbie Conard and Sandy Lauder, two other well deserved Richardson volunteers. The event was held at the Eisemann Center for Performing Arts in Richardson. We are so proud of Hollis. As a Physical Therapist, Hollis founded her own nonprofit organization To Be Like Me, providing disability awareness education to students and teachers in North Texas. Before ever becoming a Rotarian, she served on Richardson East Rotary’s signature project committee for the Ann Eisemann Inclusive Playground at Cottonwood Park. Additionally, she has served on the club’s scholarship committee, disseminating hundreds of applications for two- and four-year college scholarships. She expanded the program to include consideration for technical school nominees as well. And finally, she has consulted with Challenge Air for Kids & Friends, an organization that builds confidence in children with special needs through the gift of flight. Way to go Hollis! |
