The Register was the District 5810 Bulletin of the Year for mid-sized clubs for the past two years.

Four-Way Test Speech Contest

Richardson ISD students who spoke in Richardson East Rotary Club's Four-Way Test Speech Contest last week. (l-r) Afif Mazhar, junior from Richardson HS; Ryan Earl, senior at Richardson; Ariel Lopez, sophomore at Berkner HS; Marisol Espinal, senior at Pearce HS; and Thomas Mayer, senior at Pearce. Mazhar won first place in the constest and will represent Richardson East Rotary at the District 5810 speech contest. Lopez finished second and Mayer third. The Four-Way Test was created by Herbert Taylor in the 1930s as an ethical and moral creed for exmployees as he tried to save the floundering Club Aluminum Products Distribution Company from bankruptcy. Rotary International adopted it in 1940. It reads: Is it the Truth? Is it Fair to All Concerned? Does It Build Good Will and Better Friendships? Is It Beneficial to All Concerned?

The girls toilet blocks that the Richardson East Rotary Club has funded through a Global Grant by Woody Alexander was recently dedicated.

Rotary Foundation Celebration

District leaders prepare to celebrate Foundation’s centennial

A celebration of The Rotary Foundation centennial in 2016-17 will officially kick off in May at the Rotary Convention in Korea. Incoming leaders are already planning to lead their districts in the celebration. They received encouragement from Rotary Foundation Trustee Chair Ray Klinginsmith during Rotary’s annual training event in San Diego. Watch a video about the centennial.

CASINO NIGHT STATUS REPORT 1-16-16

Volunteers:
It is important event each and every Rotarian be involved in Casino Night in a significant way. That means being involved before and AFTER the event on Friday. There are still volunteer activities open for the night of the event and to support Theresa in the collection and cataloging of silent auction items before the event

Silent Auction Items:
We have 29 items submitted to Theresa. We need about 175 silent auction items valued on average at $50-$75. We're a little short!.

We are about halfway ($13,900) to our goal of $30,000. It takes time for organizations to respond to our sponsorship requests. If you have not made your sponsorship request it is important that you do so immediately.

Ticket Sales:
So far we have approximately $4500 in ticket money submitted. That equates to approximately 90 tickets. We need to sell at least 400 to 450 tickets to get 400 people to the Casino Night.

It takes less than a minute to report the information for each ticket sold. However, your reporting this information early dramatically reduces the confusion at check-in and supports our marketing of the larger Silent Auction Items. Last year we "LOST" $5,000 to $7,000 because we didn't sell Faye's house. No one had organized a "buying group" of friends or family to support the purchase.

The Casino Night has been and will be a very successful fund raiser. However, the Casino Night "Committee" is quite small and simply doesn't have the resources to handle everything at the last minute. Your assistance in addressing these issues earlier than later will be most appreciated by all concerned. Casino Night should be a fun activity for everyone - guests and Rotarians alike. Doing your fair share will contribute to making it fun.

Bringing freedom through mobility

Physically disabled people in Mexico often face discrimination and find it difficult to be productive members of society. Rotary members in Mexico and the United States have teamed up with Autonomy, Liberation Through Movement to provide vocational training, encouragement, and equipment.

Highlights from December Board Meeting

Woody Alexander received a letter from Purushothaman, our partner in India on the International Project building girls’ toilets, congratulating him on the Ethics Award. Puru, also, thanked the club for the Simple Truth books we provided.
Treasurers Ted Ellis and Ken Schwartz updated the Club’s Financials.
RERC will support the Human Rights Symposium scheduled for January 30, 2016, as requested by our District Governor. A $200 contribution will be sent for this event.
RERC will partner with Texas Ramp Project to provide wheelchairs to needy local residents. $2400 has been set aside for this project. The remainder of the wheelchair fund will be placed in the Wheelchair Foundation. Ken Schwartz is working with John Laine, Director of Texas Ramps Project.
Signature Project Committee will continue to meet and solidify possible RERC Signature projects.
The club is renegotiating the Contract with CCCC for continued meeting and lunch options.
Rotary International now determines Club Membership based on membership numbers as they appear in Club Central at the end of the calendar year.
Small groups should be meeting and getting their two Casino Baskets together. Send your meeting photo to Per.
Richardson Living will highlight RERC Casino in their January publication. Look for it!

Santa’s Village is up and running. Don’t forget your volunteer time slot.
