This morning at 09:30 AM on WFAA Good Morning Texas, our own Dr. Doug Crosby was interviewed by Alanna Sarabia. He never skipped a beat recognizing Richardson, Dr. Mark Denny, Network and the best little Rotary club in Texas, Richardson East Rotary Club.

Dr. Doug, you looked great and did a great job!!! Congratulations on the new position with Mint Dentistry.

TLC at the RERC Sensory Garden

On Wednesday 7/29, members of Richardson East Rotary Club performed some TLC at the sensory garden at Annie's playground, the all inclusive playground at Cottonwood park in Richardson. #peopleinaction

Club Administration

Club Administration 2020-2021

I am pleased to be serving as the Director of Club Administration for the second consecutive year. How could I, or any of us, say no to our distinguished President Mary when asked to serve on her board? Making it even easier to say yes, is my good fortune to be working with an established team of leaders heading up the committees that fall under Club Administration.

As Director of Club Administration, I get the honor of collecting your Happy Bucks at our weekly Wednesday lunch meetings. A job I am more than “happy” to do. When we get back to our live in-person lunch meetings, your Happy Bucks will be supporting the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (formerly Polio Plus). What’s even cooler is that your happiness will be TRIPLED by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. So, don’t worry, be happy! 😊

Under the umbrella of Club Administration is 1) Public Image Committee led by Per Treven. This committee, formerly known as PR/Webmaster, is taking on even more responsibilities to spread the word of RERC and the awesome things we do, keeping the bulletin informative, website up-to-date, Club Runner information current (which each of us plays a role in keeping our own profiles current) and a host of other PR support for the many things we do. 2) Program Committee spearheaded by “D” Schieferstein, who is off to a great start scheduling informative guest speakers for our lunch meetings, including this week’s program on the Ark House with Kathryn Alexander (Woody’s better half) and 3) Strategic Planning led by Karen Ellis, who has taken on the role of helping us to facilitate what our club’s goals will be for the next 3 to 5 years. Her job also includes helping us to identify what our next Signature Project will be. These are no small tasks for any of the Club Administrative chairs I get to work with this year, whom I know will deliver in ways we can’t begin to imagine.

Lastly, as Director of Club Administration, I get to handle the logistics for our annual Installation Banquet held each June. Always an event in which we celebrate the achievements of the past year while opening the door to our next President and Board’s visions for the next Rotary year. Having been a member of RERC since 2010, I continue to enjoy and admire the work that we collectively do that makes our community and the world so much better. Rotary does open us to opportunities!

The Story of Richardson East Rotary's Fundraising Committee 2020/2021

I am excited to introduce our dream team so far: Wendy Seale chair, Stephanie South co-chair, Leslie Benson, Laurie Garvie, Tom Hummel, Rick Kimball, D. Schieferstein, Per Treven, and Ron Wilson.

In a normal year BC (before covid) we would be just planning our Games and Gala event. We are doing that too and fast making strides on securing the venue and the providers to make our 25^th Anniversary Event the best yet. Since, at least for now, we find ourselves DC (during covid) we thought this year we would do our best to preserve the purpose of Games and Gala, raising money for scholarships, by also incorporating social media fundraising while raising awareness of what we do for our community in the process. Utilizing our dream team of Per Treven, Leslie Benson and Stephanie South we will be interviewing scholarship recipients, school officials and Rotarians about the processes, inspirational stories and encouragement experienced by all involved.

It is our hope that in a year that will likely produce the greatest need for our assistance that our efforts will make the mark. If we find ourselves DC come February 20, 2021, we will have an online auction. Sponsors will not miss out either way as we plan to include them in our social media efforts as well.

Meanwhile, we hope and pray to soon be in AC (after covid).

Message from Mary Bedosky our 2020-2021 RERC President

I have just begun my year as President of the Richardson East Rotary Club and of course I need to set some goals! Last year, our club completed a big playground project at Cottonwood Park in partnership with the City of Richardson Parks & Recreation Department. That project came out of a strategic planning discussion about 3 years ago. So now, we need to develop our next five year plan and uncover our next big project!

In addition, I would like to see our club grow its membership by 8-10 new members this year. To support that, we will take a look at our membership and dues structure to better accommodate all types of membership and employment situations.

We have a very dynamic team on board this year to run our club - in fact, several committees have already hit the ground running! Our Fundraising committee is looking at other options to augment our Games & Gala event that we have annually. In fact, this will be the 25th year! Our Public Image committee is looking at new and fresh ways to make sure our community knows about the great things our club does. And, our Scholarship committee is already busy planning for 2021.

I have no doubt that this will be a successful year - even during our trying times right now! It's a great time to join Richardson East Rotary!
