RISD Athletics

The Richardson Independent School District offers a diverse athletic program to provide interested students with a wide variety of team and individual sports from which to choose. Participation in interscholastic athletic competition is a privilege that offers students an enriched school experience, the possibility of scholarship opportunities, and development of lifetime leisure skills. RISD's goal is for athletic experiences to play an enjoyable and rewarding role in a student’s life.

Today the following coaches will share and provide insights of their athletic programs:

Coach Jim Ledford

Athletic Coordinator/Head Football Coach Berkner HS.
Coach Ledford has 38 years of coaching experience and 24 years as a Head Coach, the last 20 years have been at Berkner High School.
Coach Ledford is married to his wife Shawn and both his son and daughter are BerknerHigh School and A&M graduates.

Coach Lonnie Jordan

Coach Jordan is in his 25th year of coaching.  He was the Offensive Coordinator at Clifton, Lorena, Lake Highlands and McKinney High Schools.
Coach Jordan was the Head Coach at Lone Oak High School and now Lake Highlands.  He was recognized as District 6-3A coach of the year in 2014.
Coach Jordan and his wife Laura have 3 children: Nate (18), Andy (17) and Ellie (14).

Head Coach/Athletic Director David Collins

Coach Collins is entering his 4th year at Pearce HS. Coach Collins is a graduate of Sterling College and has a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Lamar University. Last year the Mustangs finished the 2018 season as Bi-District Champions.
Coach Collins is married to his lovely wife Crystal.

Coach Greg Pels

Coach Pels is in his 19th year of coaching.
Coach Pels is beginning his 4th season as the Head Coach at Richardson High School.  Coach Pels received his Bachelor of Arts in History and a Master of Arts in Teaching  from Austin College.  Coach Pels and his wife Stephanie, a Berkner graduate and former Head Softball Coach, have 2 children: Owen (10) and Chloe (8).
