Dear RERC member and prospective visitor to Richardson East Rotary Club's below are our up-coming meetings or events:

Our next in-person meeting will be on Wednesday, May 10 at noon at Network of Community Ministries in Richardson.

Richardson East Rotary Club had the pleasure of honoring two fantastic teachers last Wednesday 5/10, James Roberts, and Mandy Johnson. Each of them received a plaque and a monetary award.

Mandy Johnson
Mandy finds a variety of ways to bring learning to life beyond just pages or digital presentations. In the American Revolution unit, Mrs. Johnson brings the struggles of the colonists and war to life through a tug-of-war experience. Students learn and demonstrate the various push and pull factors along with the effects of significant battles between the Colonial and British troops. In the end, students are able to use this experience to have a great understanding to apply their learning and thinking when justifying the significant events of the American Revolution.

James Roberts
James Roberts is the teacher that students remember for the rest of their lives. He is passionate about his courses and the students respond by giving him their very best. He combines his love of education with the best teaching practices for an experience that helps transform his class into a place where students give their all, and achieve at levels they didn't believe possible.
Coach Roberts gives his all to the students of IL Texas. His peers recognized him as the 2022-2023 teacher of the year, and the students whole heartedly agree. He deserves to be recognized for his hard work .

Our May 3rd Happy Hour Bash at the Four Bullets Brewery was a great success with many members attending and multiple visitors (potential new club members).

On April 5, four new members were inducted into the Richardson East Rotary Club.  Please welcome: D'Nelle Lyons, Lin Adi, Stacey Hubbard AND the Richardson Family YMCA as represented by Samantha Buehler, Executive Director and Jordan Starr, Membership Director.

The four new members represent wide-ranging segments of our community and put "service above self": lawyer, educator, credit union expert and well-known non-profit organization We cannot wait to learn how they will contribute to our Club.

On Saturday, April 1st, Challenge Air Board of Trustee member and RERC Past President, “D” Schieferstein, along with his wife Susan, a college friend of theirs, our President Rick Kimball and his son in-law, and our own Gavin Nichols and his daughter were on hand to volunteer at the Challenge Air Fly Day at the Mesquite Airport.

Over eighty special needs “co-pilots” signed up to take to the air and take advantage of a special opportunity to find courage within themselves, building self-esteem.  They are referred to as co-pilots as the pilot allows the child a chance to take control of the aircraft and fly the plane.

Twelve pilots donated their airplanes, fuel and time on Saturday to help change the perception of those, between the ages of seven to twenty-one, with special needs.  Challenge Air has been changing the lives of children, through the gift flight, since 1993.  With a network of over 3,500 volunteers nationwide, they continue to grow through events called Fly Days.

A number of RERC members spent some time weeding and mulching at the sensory garden at Cottonwood park. The garden looks great and is now ready for the winter.
